Bandung Trip for 2012 Part 1

SO!!! First trip of the year 2012 ever since I came back from overseas is to BANDUNG…

Bandung is well-known of its nice weather and cafes around the city. To some people, it is like 2nd Bali of Indonesia..To me personally? It’s like Melbourne where I can go and relax in cafes , having a cup of coffee in the morning , viewing the scenery, enjoy brunch with friends, loved ones, family, anyone you can name it!

My trip was then 3 days 2 nights! Although, I still think is not enough, but at least I go get to enjoy it, all that matters, don’t we?

We set out on Friday night from Jakarta to Bandung, and it was only about merely less than 2 hours of driving down to Bandung.

Next morning is our real journey to tour around Bandung , basically no plans of where to visit but all we are going to do is to search for good food… The first place that we went is called kafeteria 170 which located on its famous Pasir kaliki no 170. A unique name but unable to be tracked in our GPS.. Reason? GPS not yet being updated or Kafeteria 170 is just a mistery cafe of curiousity… *giggling*

When we enter the cafe, we were the first customer of the day! How awesome.. no one and its only US!  The atmosphere of the cafe is like an old antique coffee shop with kiosk of various food that you can look for in that place.

As we look through the menu, I decided to go with the most original club sandwich and nasi campur for breakfast. Nevertheless, I have ordered myself hazelnut latte and mini dim-sum donuts as you can see from the pictures.

When you visit Kafetaria 170, do not forget to buy some snacks from there. We bought local bakpia which have chocolate, butterscotch, green beans and cheese flavoured. Freshly baked everyday and here is the yummy bakpia!!! 😀 Stay tuned for more food adventure as this is just the beginning of the excitement!

Kanteen @ South Yarra

I thought it was only few weeks ago that I went to this place Kanteen at South Yarra for the first time. I really missed their breakfast as well as their well designed location that is just beside the Yarra River. It was a nice little brunch moment, enjoying the wind breeze and the sunlight. Their half open space has attracted many people to enjoy coffees and breakfast that they would offer. My first time to visit is totally a worthy trip, with the accompanies of nice meals on the menu.

Muharam courtyard Cafe at Hawthorn, Melbourne

Yesterday, I finally get to meet up with my girls and had lunch together at one of the cafe located in Hawthorn, Melbourne.  I have never been to that area to shop or spend time around that area… Erm.. SO, my friend who works around that area has decided to call us to have lunch together at Muharam! I picked my friend up from her place and drove to Hawthorn.

Tash (who is the good friend of mine and works around that area) recommends a cafe nearby called “Muharam”. I never heard of it but I always trust her taste because she has always had similar taste as me in terms of fashion or food wise. We met up at 12 noon. Alvi (who is also another good friend of mine) and I went into the place and there it was the reservation table that has already waiting for us.. >_< First impression of the place is that it is just timeless.  The cafe has 2 different parts where customers are able to choose to sit at the back of the cafe @courtyard or indoor which is the cafe itself.  As we took our seat indoor, the lady came to us with a simple menu that she was holding on her hands. I had a look through at the menu and it’s basically look simple and ordinary.  Muharam serves all day breakfast as well as lunch. Some home-made cakes are being served too. We were chatting while browsing what we want for lunch as well as waiting for Tash to arrive.  Soon after, my dear Tash has arrived! She has always look cheerful and excited (must be lunch time!!) .

Just quickly looking through the menu once again, we have decided to order our food. I ordered Steak sandwich as I was told that this place serve good and delicious steak sandwich. Alvi has go ahead with chicken salad (somehow couldn’t really remember the full name). With Tash, she ordered food of the day – Thai Chicken with rice. On top of that, recommendations suggested that the cafe make good coffee too! Nevertheless, I ordered my all time favourite Mocha, and Alvi chai latte. My steak sandwich is really YUMMY!! It serves with big chunk of chips with some home-made sauce which they really cut into big strips from 100% actual potatoes and deep fried.  The bread was spread with butter and it was a bit of oily, but it still tastes absolutely tasty as the juicy steak just make the whole dish looks perfect. With Mocha as companion, I am just so into the lunch.. (^_^)v

It was a good lunch overall!! Crowds start to flow in during lunch time and amazing about this place is that there is open backyard for customers who want to enjoy lunch in such jazzy atmosphere. I enjoyed with the girls chit chatting almost anything! From the food that we ate to any topic such as fashion, my trip, our activities and etc. This is why I like to be around with good people and friends where we can share our happiness and troubles. I am really blessed to have them as my good friends in my life.. 🙂 As we continued the one hour lunch break before Tash has to go back to work,  I saw the young lady owner and she looks sweet and pretty. No wonder the cafe that she builds has a cosy and very jazzy feeling. I am really in love with it and would love to enjoy my afternoon just sitting down and enjoy a cup of coffee.. 🙂

Middle Cafe and Bar @ Middle Park

I was browsing through my photos folders and realized that every single folder, there’s always picture of food… >_< I think I am obsessed with food, and just could not avoid good food… Some of my friends might know that I ate any food EXCEPT baby corn… I tried when I was young like 5 years old and it tasted totally sucks and wierdd, the worst thing is that I almost vomit because of eating it. So it is totally a bad experience of it!

This time, I would like to introduce one of the cafes that I went to. We did not intend to go this cafe but eventually we can’t find that place, so we just randomly choose this cafe. When we first saw the place, it was quite pack of people.. Some of them sit outdoors with their pets and some are enjoying indoors (some were sitting at the bar table). So we chose to sit outdoors where the sun directly shine through me.

We ordered mocha and hot chocolate respectively before ordering any breakfast. It came pretty quick despite many customers were having breakfast too. With my stomach growling, i scanned through my menu and there I’ve locked my eyes on the Smoked Salmon with Scrambled eggs on toast! By just using my imagination, It would taste good no matter what..>_< My friend ordered Bruschetta on Toast.  When our meals came, it was actually quite a big portion! Presentation of the food are really nice and the customer service is friendly too.

While chatting and eating our breakfast in Middle Park, I feel that the lifestyle in Melbourne is really very relaxing. Looking at the people around us are pretty doing the same thing like us. Spending weekend time with families and friends are the precious thing we can do especially when we contribute our day time to our “lovely” full-time jobs. Anyway, by the time we finished our breakky, I went in to the counter and found there’s huge muffins! YES, HUGE MUFFIN! *Specifically* =banana muffin! 🙂 So there I go again, I ordered a banana muffin for us to share. The banana muffin was home-made and served warm! Obviously, I cut in quarter in order to allow myself only half or less considering how much calories I have consumed just breakfast ALONE. -___- I can really taste the banana chunk sitting right on the bottom of the muffin, and it was not as sweet as I thought. I like muffin that it’s not too sweet, so to me, the muffin is just perfect for my taste. My friend is not a big of muffin, so hopefully he’s enjoying it too while with me… 😛

In terms of pricing of the food, it is between $6 – $16.50. They do serve lunch too as far as I know and bars at night?

Overall Verdict :

Price : Average between $6 – $16.50.

Atmosphere: Pet-friendly,  modern Australia cuisine, many menu to choose from,  friendly customer service, efficiency.

Food : Between 7 – 8.5 rating out of 10!

Café No.5 @ Central Place

Another breakfast day with my friend who is going back to Indonesia for good soon on 16th Jan. Recently, I have been having this feeling that more and more friends around are going back to their own countries for good.. Is it a sign for me? @_@

Anyway, before I went for this breakfast, I did a good job by going to gym early in the morning before starting any big feast. So at 11.30am, I met my friend @ Flinder’s station. As usual, this friend of mine is late…-___- but just merely 15 minutes.. We went to the one of the famous breakfast area @ flinder’s lane, and there’s one cafe that I went once with my other friend named “Café No.5”. I like that way they called them No: 5 although I’ve no idea what’s the story behind it.

To him:  “I wish you tried this next time with me, OK?”

So this place is very small, cafes along these street are almost very narrow and squezzy… But the atmosphere is one of the cosy I’ve ever been. I liked the structure and the designs of how it’s been created. Imagine you are entering into a small lane with full of people enjoying breakfast, chit chatting with friends, enjoying the gloomy/bit of sunny weather… *ooo* what a leisure! Alright, next we’re looking for is the space for sitting. We were lucky to get a table for 2 right at the corner. We quickly looked up at the small little board for the menu, and I decided on ordering eggs Benedict and eggs Florentine for my friend. My friend knew that I’m a muffin lover, so he ordered an extra raspberry muffin for us to share…  Right in front of the cashier, there’s like a display shelves where they put freshly baked muffin (chocolate, strawberry, raspberry, etc) and Paninis with different fillings/flavors.On top of that, I ordered Hot chocolate for me and Mocha for my friend.

Not long after we finished the muffin for about 10 – 15 min, here comes our breakky time… It looks really delicious with the hollandaise dressing on top of the eggs… For me, I love how they cooked the half-cooked eggs, it is just very tasteful to go with the sauces. Usually when I went to their cafe, I ordered their big breakfast, but this time round I decided to try other dish. One word to describe = Nice! Customer service is also friendly. Once they say we’ve emptied our cup, the guy will come over and cleared out table and asked if we liked another cup. When we need water, another lady will also quickly grab a bottle of water and serve it to us. This is what I would consider efficiency! We chat through the meal, enjoyed our meal and my stomach is satisfied. 🙂

Overall Verdict :

Price : Average between $10 – $15.00 for each menu

Atmosphere: Pet-friendly ( but I think you won’t want to bring your pet along bcoz it’s very crowded place), modern, friendly customer service.

Food : Between 7 – 8.5 rating out of 10!

Andrew’s Chicken Joint @ Lorne

I had breakfast @ Andrew’s Chicken Joint on my way to Great Ocean Road in a town called Lorne. The place is like a fish & chips bar and it’s always packed with people and MOSQUITOES!! I hate it especially when it comes to summer! It issss sooo annoying!!! There were sooo many menus to choose from which sometimes make it more difficult what to order.

Luckily, it was highly recommended by a friend’s aunt to have toasted Vienna cost $11.50AUD. Toasted Vienna consist Avocado, 2 fried eggs, bacon, mayo and English muffin. I was keen to taste if it was really worthy. So with hesitation,  indeed I ordered following with a cup of regular hot chocolate. The average food price @ the place are between $9 – 15.00 which consider to be cheap- eats for local and visitors…In terms of  service wise um… too many people to be served but I know they’re doing their best  in order not to stuff up any of the orders… The lady that I ordered from is straight-forward, quick and attention to detail.

She did say we have to wait 15 minutes, so when finally our oder numbers were called, I can’t wait to open my box to see what’s store in it! To make more memorable moments to have our breakfast, we went over to the opposit beach to enjoy our meals. Nevertheless, I took pictures of my breakfast and the next moment, I have started munching on it…. *chew chew, yum yum* The bacon is really well cooked and crispy.  Eggs were half-cooked and it was really tasty with pepper and salt. Oil was 80% sucked by english muffing, so we can imagine how much fat has been stored in that 1 slice of english muffin, but who cares! I’m still enjoying it.. Though it is not big, but it’s enough for me for tha day~

Overall Verdict :

Price : Average ( Consider cheap eats)

Atmosphere: Pet-friendly

Cafe Vue 401 @ St Kilda

This is probably the official place that I’ve tried the breakfast and serious comments about them. I like the atmosphere as the place has some good interior design. My plan for that day (on 23/12/2009 to be specific) was to spend a relaxing day with my friends (dress on our summer dresses) and there we found the place.  When we arrive, the waiter who serves us is very friendly (he’s cute by the way). Cutlery that was used consider antique to me.

Moving onto the food and drinks, first off : 3 of us ordered different coffees : Cappuccino, Latte and Mocha (I ordered this by the way). I love my Mocha. I think they used chocolate chip at the bottom.  I never get to taste the other drinks that my friends ordered but it smells nice to me. >_< We looked over the cute menu (menu design consist of some funny jokes) for breakfast, but on the 2nd page, there’s  lunch menu which customers can start ordering at 11am. We were there at 10.55am, SO which makes us instead of having breakfast, we might as well try the lunch menu!..

SO our final decision were to order the lunch :  I ordered chicken wrap with their home-made chips. Chicken Wrap overall is not bad but the salad taste more like those which usually serve on Vietnamese rolls…  Although it tastes not bad, I did not expect it as I would expect to be western food totally. 2 of my friends ordered Yorkshire Pudding and Smoked Salmon Sandwich respectively. Out of 3 dishes that we ordered, I think Yorkshire pudding is the best.. The smash potatoes is creamy and soft. It serves with slices of beef which is very tender..The best sauce that I’ve ever tasted was their tomato sauces! They make their tomato sauce which tastes so deliciousss that 3 of us finished at least half of bottle of it! haha…

Customer service is good as they have friendly smiles and look after us whenever we run out of our glasses of water. In terms of pricing, I consider cheap as they do not overcharge the food at the place. Although I never get to try their desserts, but they serve such as pistachio cupcakes, assorted cakes (nice presentation of cakes) and a good place to relax with your pets, friends!

Overall Verdict :

Price : Average ( Consider cheap eats)

Atmosphere: Pet-friendly, modern, friendly customer service.

Food : Between 6.5 – 8 rating out of 10!
